They are already sending out e-mails and making phone calls to get personal information (Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, ect.) stating it is so the person can receive their upcoming tax rebate. The IRS has stated that they do not make phone call or send out e-mails to gather personal information. More information from the IRS web site. Rochester man pleads guilty to carjacking last summerPost-Bulletin: Jan 29, 2008 Joshua Jacobson opened the door of the car and pulled the driver out by his shirt collar. Then the 27-year-old Rochester man drove off, leaving the 63-year-old victim stranded on a highway ramp. On Monday, Jacobson pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated robbery and faces a possible 6 1/2-year prison term. Under a plea agreement, several other felony charges were dismissed, but Jacobson will be responsibile for restitution for crashing the stolen car into a fence and shed. Three people heard a 44-year-old Stewartville woman yell after a man grabbed her purse while she was putting purchases in her car in the parking lot at Wal-Mart South. They chased a man carrying a purse run through the lot. The suspect went into an apartment building. Police were called, the manager was contacted, and the suspect and the purse were found. Winters said the 18-year-old suspect is in custody. The woman was not injured. 17-year-old StabbedPosted Jan 17, 2008 1100 block of 13th Avenue Northwest, 12:08 p.m. Tuesday. Between 20 and 30 teenagers were in a fight that police say was gang related. Onlookers called police, but the fight was over when police arrived. A A 17-year-old John Marshall High School student was stabbed while trying to break up the fight. He was treated at Saint Marys Hospital for a stab wound to the waist area and released. No arrests have been made. The weapon used in the stabbing hasn't been recovered. They are among five people accused of barging into the mobile home the evening of Jan. 6. All were charged with robbery, burglary and assault with a dangerous weapon. On Tuesday, Benjamin James Weidendorf, 17, of Plainview, and My Hoang Tran, 17, of Rochester, pleaded guilty in juvenile court to four counts of first-degree aggravated robbery. She died of some type of an assault, and there was a fire set by the killer to cover up the crime. This is the first murder in Rochester in 2007.
